Fun with Cameras ... yes, more than one ... oy!/why?

I'm getting TWO new (well, one's used) cameras (the loser will be sold or returned by the end of April, we're not getting camera crazy here folks):

(1) The Canon S3 which can be hacked (found on eBay for $142!)

(2) The Canon A590IS ($160 on Amazon - use refundplease.com to watch for price drops and get a refund) which is the new version of the A570IS, the best selling point-and-shoot of 2007.

My review of the A590is:
Pros: The A590IS is the best point and shoot under $200 today (closer to $160 most places). I own an SD600 and my friend and father (different people mind you!) own the A570IS. The A590IS is the new version of the A570IS, 2007's best selling camera. Generally, see the rave reviews of the A570IS if you want to know the major pros and cons, but here I'll address the main improvements:

(1) The A590IS has 8mp vs. 6mp on the A570IS
(2) The A590IS is faster between shots (but SLIGHTLY slower before the first shot can be taken, less than .5 second difference according to CNet)
(3) It's charcoal/gray - minor but I like it
(4) It's ""rounder"" on the edges but no less stable in your hand, neither is too slippery like other overly polished cameras (also, no finger smudges as a result).
(5) There is sometimes increased noise with higher MP cameras, this is NOT the case here - noise levels are similar.
(6) there are some minor additional shooting modes and improvements to other shooting

Cons:
The only change that is not an improvement is the lowering of the frames per second in the video mode.
A570IS: 640x480 = 30fps --- 320x240 = 60fps
A590IS: 640x480 = 20fps --- 320x240 = 30fps
Still quiet good, but this was a pointless change that is not appreciated -- the reality is that most people don't use video often and those who do will see a minimal difference ... if you're paying that much attention to the video you may be more interested in a different camera or a video camera.

This will be the best selling camera of 2008 (I predict elections too, yeah) and it's a safe purchase you won't regret (unless it gives you such a new found love for photography that suddenly you wish you had a Canon S5 or G7 ... which are more than twice as expensive!)
Yes, the review is lame, sorry.

The election thing - simple thoughts

All other issues aside, and there are plenty, this thing is wrapping up:

794 superdelegates total, 332 who have not picked a candidate yet. Clinton would need over 200 of them - to get that she'd need to win the popular vote of the remaining states by about 67% (not happening).

Since March 4 Clinton has gotten 1 superdelegate, Obama got about 50 including Richardson today.

Clinton will win Penn. but by May 20 Obama will have a majority of delegates from the state primaries and caucuses (Oregon and others put him over the top by a good chunk that day).

Florida is out of a re-run. Michigan is unlikely but even if it goes, Obama polls even with Clinton there. So Obama will get it. Yay!

Make phone calls for Obama from home if you have a second:

On an unrelated note:
  1. "There Will be Vader"
  2. The New Republic on "Why White People Like 'Stuff White People Like'"
  3. Proposed show that will be "better than The Wire"
  4. DON'T stay off the grass - desire paths, like ants, but with people
  5. Balti cop tells all - reading for The Wire fans
Oh, and I'm going to New York to visit Ronnie next week - where should I go, what should I do/see/laugh at?

I get email - "the Purina Diet"

I have 6 large dogs and was buying several large bags of Dog Chow at Costco, standing in line to check out. The woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
(Duh!)

On impulse, I told her no, I was starting The Purina Diet again. Although, I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in hospital the last time. But I'd lost 20 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story, particularly a tall guy who was standing behind her.

Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me.

I told her no, I'd been sitting in the street licking my ass and a car hit me.

I thought the guy standing behind her was going to need help as he staggered to the door laughing.

[This was the first forwarded I've received that was actually funny without pictures ... though pictures certainly would have helped, for example, below is a cat's ass in which Jesus miraculously appears:]

Post Bar Exam thoughts / which movies should I watch?

Was it fair? Eh, maybe (check back in May) other than that silly PT-A (screw your SoL, give him his money back you wacky lawyer!)

Was it reasonable? Of course not, $1,000,000 to her church then Sis gets friendly and manipulative and crazy? Man drown in tank of shit? Wills MBE questions?

Was it horrible? Yes, but not as bad as studying and working and explaining why everything is so screwy to your family/loved ones/dog/cats/gecko/internet forum friends (no, they don't count as "friends"). The studying was worse that the test for me, now I'm building a fort out of the barbri, PMBR, Bar Code, PT Maximizer, Bar Breaker, Survival Guide books and papers. The dog is terrified and fascinated by it.

Don't you wish you knew what the rules were for bigamists? Such an important area of California law, oy.

Hasn't remembering your short path to alcoholism been refreshing? Remember, hangovers are just the result of dehydration - drink two tall glasses of water and take a few Advils before bed, you'll be fine to work tomorrow.

Is your wife/husband, lover(s), mistresses/misters, baby's momma/daddy, role playing buddy (see internet forum "friends" above) happy to have you back or were they getting used to the tranquility your absence provided? You, umm, don't have to answer that. I'm sure your cat/children are happy you're feeding them regularly again at least.

Seems like there's less news about the Democratic primaries now that I have all day to check for updates rather than only looking once every other hour (I know, I'm sick, but this is a political junkies moist dream! Even Canada is getting in on the hot, dirty primary action).

Here's to everyone passing!
